About Us

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) was the state’s first academic medical center and has been at the forefront of educational, research, and clinical excellence since its founding in 1891. Today, UTMB has campuses in Galveston, League City, and Angleton and is one of the largest, fastest growing academic health centers in the U.S. with more than 3,200 students and 900 faculty. The University includes schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Biomedical Sciences; three institutes for advanced study; a major medical library; a network of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and specialized medical care; and numerous research facilities. UTMB is a part of The University of Texas System and a member of the Texas Medical Center. Our explicit mission is to improve health for the people of Texas and around the world.
