Course Description

This course is made available through the eLearnAfrica and FutureLearn partnership.

Explore behaviour change in relation to environmental challenges

Attempts to change people’s behaviours are often unsuccessful, even when those concerned acknowledge that the changes would be beneficial. This four-week course will help you understand why this happens and identify ways to implement change more effectively.

Armed with this expertise, you’ll become more effective at encouraging positive behaviour change, particularly in relation to the environmental challenges we face.

Whether it’s developing policies to reduce energy consumption, community projects to reduce food waste, or interventions to encourage recycling, the outcomes can be improved using appropriate behaviour change approaches.

Unpack behaviour change theory

You’ll compare a number of behaviour change models, theories, and frameworks, and explore the historical development of the ideas behind these.

With a deeper understanding of behaviour change, you’ll learn how to apply these theories to a range of situations, with an emphasis on change in the agri-food and environmental sectors.

Explore behaviour change in context

You’ll see behaviour change in context to help you gain the practical skills needed to apply your knowledge in real-world settings.

Unpacking the drivers of human behaviour, you’ll learn how to use this to improve the success of behaviour change interventions.

Learn from the experts at Aberystwyth University

Finally, you’ll explore the global significance of behaviour change and how new digital technologies might influence the development of the discipline.

Learning from the experts at Aberystwyth University, you’ll finish the course with the knowledge and skills to influence behaviour change and make a positive difference.

This course is designed for anyone who wants to encourage positive behaviour change. You could be a policy maker, knowledge exchange professional, or community project worker.

No prior knowledge is required.
