Take your understanding of Thailand and its culture to the next level by learning the basics of Thai language and conversation.
This course is made available through the eLearnAfrica and FutureLearn partnership.
Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet.
Learn how to fully immerse yourself in the culture and engage with the locals in their own language with this two-week course from Universiti Malaya.
Using an interactive, communicative approach to language learning, you’ll be introduced to key words and phrases that will be invaluable on your trip to Thailand.
With plenty of practice time built into your learning, you’ll gain the skills and the confidence to try your new knowledge out when exploring the country.
With a focus on useful words and phrases, you’ll begin by perfecting counting in Thai and learn how to use this within conversational contexts, such as exchanging phone numbers. You’ll then build on this knowledge by exploring the weeks and months of the year, bringing these skills together by learning to ask the time.
Moving on, you’ll broaden your conversational repertoire, learning to describe your family and discuss your own and other people’s jobs. You’ll also discover how to ask simple yes or no questions.
Guided by a Thai native speaker, you’ll learn accurate pronunciation and learn how to construct simple sentences using correct grammar.
Using the listening and speaking skills you’ve developed during this course, you’ll be able to begin having simple conversations in Thai, ensuring your meaning is clear and avoiding confusion when testing out your new language skills abroad.
This course is designed for beginners with little or no experience of speaking Thai. It is particularly suited to those planning on visiting the country.
