With sustainability practices now included in many different environments, it’s important to understand the basic concepts of sustainability to help you communicate in your personal and professional life.
On this three-week course, you’ll learn how to explain, discuss, and implement sustainable change, using English as your communication tool.
You’ll discover how you can be part of a positive movement in your home, community, or workplace as you learn the vocabulary needed to address sustainability.
You’ll discover how you can apply practical solutions using the English language to help improve sustainability in your area.
You’ll identify any sustainable processes that are already in place before exploring how you can start to drive positive change.
You’ll learn the language needed to explain the 17 goals of sustainability (SDGs) as set out by the UN to help you gain a broader understanding of sustainability on a global scale.
Next, you’ll explore which sustainable goals are being carried out at the University of Otago, a world-leading institute and the first in New Zealand to sign the SDGs.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to communicate sustainability issues and implement change in your professional and personal environments.
This course is designed for EAL students with an interest in sustainability.
It will be of particular interest if you’re looking to upskill your English language ability by learning how to use specific vocabulary and grammar related to sustainability.

Complete all tests and assignments on my own, unless collaboration on an assignment is explicitly permitted.
Maintain only one user account and not let anyone else use my username and/or password.
Not engage in any activity that would dishonestly improve my results, or improve or hurt the results of others.
Not post answers to problems that are being used to assess student performance.
Abide by any and all requirements of the eLearnAfrica Participants as may regard the expectations of civil or academic behavior or of community standards.
If you are found in violation of the Terms and Conditions or Honor Code, you may be subject to one or more of the following actions:
Receiving a zero or no credit for an assignment;
Having any certificate earned in the course withheld or revoked;
Being unenrolled from a course, learning program or degree program; or
Termination of your use of the App and/or Site.
Additional actions may be taken at the sole discretion of eLearnAfrica and eLearnAfrica course providers.
No refunds will be issued in the case of any corrective action for such violations.
Honor code violations will be determined at the sole discretion of eLearnAfrica, the Partners, or Members. You will be notified if a determination has been made that you have violated this honor code and you will be informed of the corresponding action to be taken as a result of the violation.
